Paid Research Study. $30 to $60 Families with Children aged 2.5 to 3.5 years old

This study is helping us develop a home-based tool to pick up early signs of hearing issue easily by caregivers - so children can get the right support early, before it affects their speech, learning, and development! 

 

What does it involve?

 

We're looking at new ways to detect hearing problems from young children's speech. 

Your help in this study will show us how this method works. 

What does the app do?

It's designed to be fun! Your child will play through two quick activities:

  • Naming pictures: Identifying fun images on the screen.

  • Play conversation: A relaxed chat with your child to hear their natural speech.

 

Who can join the study?

Age

  • Between 2 years 6 months to 3 years 6 months old

All hearing status

  • Normal hearing or
  • Having middle ear concerns or
  • Awaiting for grommets or
  • Diagnosed with a hearing loss

Language

  • Speaks or hears English at least 3 days a week

Location

  • Families living in Australia

This study is funded by NHMRC Ideas Grant & approved by the Hearing Australia Human Research Ethics Committee: HAHREC2024-13.

  Syracuse University is conducting a study on stressful events and alcohol and substance use.
