Focus Group Registration. Get Paid $150 in VISA GIFT CARD
Thank you for your interest in participating in our focus group event. Please read the information below.
My name is Nicholas Weller and I’m a researcher at Arizona State University. A team of researchers and I are conducting a research study to understand the hopes, concerns, and questions people from different backgrounds hold about publicly-funded science.
We invite you to respond to this approximately 10-minute questionnaire. We will invite 15 people who answer this questionnaire to participate in the focus group. The focus group will take approximately 6 hours. At the focus group, you’ll be asked to share and reflect on learning, change, and your perspectives on public funding for science and technology. You and other community members present and fill out short response sheets and a survey about your perspectives. In total, study procedures will take 6 hours and 10 minutes. Depending on the location, the focus group will happen during one day or two consecutive evenings.
Your participation in both the questionnaire and (if invited) the focus group is voluntary. If you are invited and participate in the focus group, you will receive a physical $150 VISA gift card at the end of the event. You must be 18 or older to participate in the study. There are no foreseeable risks or discomforts to your participation.
We are also asking your permission to audio record the forum. Only the research team will have access to the recording. The recording will be deleted immediately after being transcribed and any published quotes will be anonymous. The recording will be transcribed using a software called noScribe; noScribe uses Artificial Intelligence to transcribe audio. At any time during the focus group, you can let a staff member know that you do not want to be recorded, and we will stop.
All recordings, notes, survey responses, and completed response sheets will be kept in a secure location and be used only by the researchers to further our understanding of the deliberations that take place and to fully explore everyone’s perspectives. Personally identifiable information removed will be removed from the recordings, notes, and your responses to the questionnaire.
The questionnaire asks for your name and email address. These will only be used to confirm your participation and send event information. Your name and contact information will be removed from your questionnaire responses after the forum.
The results of this study may be used in reports, presentations, or publications but your name will not be used. De-identified data collected as part of this study may be shared with other researchers for future research purposes. Because other participants will be at the forum, complete confidentiality and anonymity of your responses cannot be guaranteed.
