$100 Visa Gift Card. Climate Change, Wellbeing and Quality of Life Survey
You are invited to take part in a research study about climate change and mental health. This study aims to improve how research measures young people's experiences, including emotions and wellbeing.
Who Can Take Part?
You can participate if you:
- are 16 years or older
- are currently living in Australia
What Does Participation Involve?
If you take part, you will complete this 20-30 minute online survey about your wellbeing and quality of life as well as thoughts and feelings about climate change. Some questions may feel similar or repetitive. This is intentional, as we are testing how well different questions measure similar experiences. There are no right or wrong answers; we are interested in your honest responses.
Taking part is completely voluntary. While there are no direct benefits to you, your responses will contribute to improving how research understands and measures young people's experiences of climate change, which may help inform future research and support efforts.
Potential Risks and Support Services
Some of the topics may be emotionally challenging. If you feel distressed or would like support, you are encouraged to contact your GP, psychologist, counsellor, or a support service such as:

If you or someone else is in immediate danger or requires urgent assistance, call 000.
Privacy and Confidentiality
Your responses will be anonymous. We do not collect your name in the survey. If you choose to enter the draw for 1 of 5 × $100 Visa gift cards, you will be directed to a separate form at the end of the survey to provide your contact details. This form is not linked to your survey responses, so your answers cannot be connected to your identity.
Prize winners may choose to receive their prize via bank transfer or gift card. Gift cards may be delivered electronically (via email) or by post. If delivery requires sharing your contact details with a third-party provider, we will inform you and obtain your consent beforehand. Postal addresses will only be collected where required for prize delivery.
All data will be stored securely on University of Melbourne systems (SharePoint). Only the research team will have access to the data, and results will be reported in a way that no one can be identified. Survey data will be retained for at least 15 years after the youngest participant reaches the age of 18. However, your email will be deleted after the prize is awarded. Your data will only be used for this research project and will not be used for future research without additional ethical approvals.
